The existing house was situated on a long narrow site. There was a little scope to extend on the northern boundary and the client wanted to retain a newly built sunroom which reduced possibility of extending to rear.
The solution was to raise the roof and construct a first floor. The first floor (storey and a half design) accommodates the master bedroom, ensuite and walk-in wardrobe together with two additional bedrooms and a bathroom.
The small box bedroom on the ground floor was demolished and an open stairs to access the first floor was constructed. This stairs and hallway is flooded with natural light from the first floor windows.
An extension was also constructed on the northern gable to accommodate a utility and a dining area which has access to sunlight from midday.
Existing family home was small and cramped. Client required dining area, utility & 2 additional bedrooms including master bedroom with ensuite & walk-in wardrobe.
